MKO Website Relaunched With a New Look and a New Approach

Welcome to the new Maunakea Observatories website!  With fresh design, photography, science, and storytelling, the updated website reflects the evolution of MKO and offers a glimpse into our work, people, approach, and role in community.

Visually, the new website features an updated aesthetic and MKO logo, along with photography from a recent shoot with Cory Lum and photos contributed by members of the MKO hui that feature not only astronomy and Maunakea, but many of the faces that make astronomy on Maunakea possible. The clean, modern style and simplified navigation of the new site is intended to make it easier for visitors to navigate and find the information they seek.

In reimagining the site, it was important to reflect the evolving landscape of mutual stewardship, and MKO's role within this context as not only a producer of world-class science, but as a member of our local community with kuleana to protect the mauna on which we have the privilege of working. While we continue to feature and have updated scientific discoveries, the new site also features a stories section that shares the human and local elements of the work we do. The new site also offers an explanation of our approach to mutuality and definition of terms as well as articulating our positions on governance and astronomy and pathways to engage in the process.

This new website was built to be agile, and to grow along with MKO. We’re excited to have it represent us in our local community, the scientific community, and beyond. Mahalo to everyone who contributed to the website by creating and reviewing content, offering technical support, and agreeing to have their photo taken!
