Internships
We are passionate about nurturing the next generation of Hawaiʻi’s science, engineering, and technology professionals. Our internship programs connect college students with summer internship experiences at observatories and companies across Hawaiʻi. The Kamaʻāina Connections Program strives to foster a greater appreciation of Hawaiian and local culture throughout the Maunakea Observatories. Open to all kamaʻāina observatory employees, this program cultivates connections between the observatories and local communities to promote personal growth and leadership through a Native Hawaiian-informed lens.

Maunakea Scholars mentors Hawaiʻi high school students and welcomes them into the observatory community to gain real-world experience in astronomy, science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. Maunakea Scholars have opportunities to earn telescope time at our world class facilities to do real research, as well as opportunities to win scholarships to continue their studies in STEM fields beyond high school.
